If you're looking for a truly memorable day out with the kids it will be difficult to top the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway (RH&DR). This miniature railway was first opened in 1927 and was billed as the World's first smallest public railway. The train runs from Dungeness through to the town of Hythe, covering a distance of just short of 14 miles. Think, Thomas the Tank Engine, beautifully maintained, with proper steam engines in miniature and miniature stations, and you will get the picture. When we took the train, we got on at New Romney, as we had been informed that the first part (from Dungeness to New Romney) was largely providing views of houses. From New Romney onwards your are provided with wonderful scenary over the English countryside.
